February 1, 2014

This one time, I was planning a trip to the United States…

Naturally, with a trip to the States comes a trip to Sephora. Well, for a beauty-freak like me, anyway. And so the real planning began…

Whilst never actually visiting the makeup superstore before, I had been hearing about it for years, and had used their website as research for the latest and greatest beauty products making waves around the globe- of course, products that are widely unavailable in Australia.

I started my Sephora shopping list months in advance. Day after day I would trawl, adding items to my virtual ‘Shopping Cart’, excited by the fact I would be ‘Checking Out’ said cart in person. In the Sephora store. In America. Wooo!  The day before I left, I printed out my list.

It stretched over 4 pages (front and back), and consisted of lip balms, face creams, mascara after mascara, dry shampoos, nail polishes, nail stickers, nail files, fake tans, fake tan removers, perfumes, pencils, foundations, bronzers, blushes, brushes and about 200 other fabulous items. The ‘Shopping Cart Total’ was not important.

Upon arrival in America, I visited several Sephora boutiques (much to my non-makeup-obsessed friend’s dismay) and they were everything I thought they’d be and more. I could have spent all day perusing the aisles and sampling each product on the back of my hand. After day one, I had already blown the budget, and within two weeks, was forced to acquire a second suitcase to fit my 23 kilograms of cosmetic purchases. Told you. Makeup obsessed.

I thought I would share with you some of my favourite Sephora purchases:

Style: "P 30 Product - Ultra sharp"

This wind-up eyebrow pencil has changed my life. Well, my eyebrows at least. Its easy handling and soft crayon-like tip makes for superior application, allowing you to shape, define, and fill in your brows for a natural, polished look.

It has a magical formula that is super long-wearing, so it will take you from day to night without any smudging or smearing, and it mimics the brow hair, so it looks 100% natural when filling in small gaps, or completely reshaping the brows (who doesn’t want to look like Cara Delevingne?!)

I won’t go on and on about this one. All you need to know is:

– Delicious Armani smell

-Convenient rollerball size

-Only $20

-Loved it so much I purchased the 50ml bottle when I got home.

Want  to know more? Here’s what Giorgio has to say…

Off the coast of Italy, the island of Pantelleria is a place where the deep blue-green Mediterranean Sea meets the sun and earth, creating a sense of happiness, serenity, and optimism. This fresh, aquatic fragrance, whose name means, “water of joy,” captures the simple happiness one can experience at this extraordinary destination.

This is my mid-twenties stab at a wrinkle cream. I’m not quite at the stage where I’m willing to spend big bucks on looking younger, but I feel I should be doing something to stop the clock. This is my happy medium.

I have been applying this to my face and neck nightly for 3 months, and must say, my skin is looking somewhat firmer and brighter. The cream goes on silky smooth and keeps my skin hydrated while I sleep- and hopefully repairs some of the damage I’ve done during the day. I’m not sure if it has stopped any sort of clock, but I’m sleeping better at night knowing that I’m trying!

Now this one you can get in Australia, but it’s a hell of a lot cheaper O/S.

As a mascara fiend, I have tried them all. And while this product has topped Beauty Ed best-seller lists for years, I had never tried it. Weird, I know.

After I purchased the mascara sampler box from Sephora (containing 20 mini mascaras), I knew I was in trouble. As a firm advocator for Maybelline Falsies, I knew there was a strong possibility this sampler box may lead me in a new lash direction. And it did.

The Lancome Hypnose Drama was the ultimate volumiser. No clumps, no smudges, just thick, luscious, long-lasting, bold, black lashes.

Sold and sold. Sorry Falsies.

FRESH SUGAR LIP TREATMENT SPF 15+ – approx. $22.50

I didn’t actually find out about this product until I came back to Australia. I was sent an email from Sephora on my birthday that said I could redeem a Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Duo Gift Set as my bday present – Score!

Ummm… Sephora… Please tell me how can I redeem my gift when I live in Australia and you don’t ship here??

Hello friend who is on holiday in America! Can you please go into Sephora and redeem my birthday gift for me? Thanks!

Two weeks later and I got to try my two free gifts- and they were amazing! Best lip balms ever. I know I say that a lot, but this time I mean it. The duo set came with a clear balm and a peachy tint balm. Both are super hydrating, silky smooth and have a lovely scent that I can’t quite put my finger on, but it’s delicious! $22.50 is quite expensive for a lip balm, but I assure you, these ones are well worth the spend.

My Sephora recommendations could go on for days, so I will stop here… For now….

A boy named Barry

January 5, 2014

I discovered a while ago that my favourite bargain beauty brand,  is  available from ASOS.COM.AU

Thank god. Shipping time from the UK was just too long to wait for this amazing, brightly coloured, cheap-as, fashion makeup brand.

I fell in love with Barry in 2009 when I was living in London. I made many trips to Boots pharmacy to purchase lots of ridiculously crazy coloured lipsticks, glitter pots, shimmer dusts and nail polishes.

My absolute favourite product is a bright Barbie-pink lipstick that always gets compliments when I wear it.

And for only $7.30, I think I might have to purchase a few more colourful shades! (Buy here)

Some other Barry M products I now have my eye on are:

Lip Lacquer Crayons, $8.11

Perfect Tan Instant Tan Spray, $11.34

Wink Marker Pen Eyeliner, $7.44

Looking forward to blowing a bit of cash on some new fun party makeup!

Vaseline Aloe Fresh SPF 15

November 23, 2013

I love moisturisers, but I hate sunscreen. I don’t think I’m alone here. Sunscreen sucks!

This is why I truly believe that Vaseline Aloe Fresh Moisturiser with SPF 15 was made especially for me.

It combines annoying sunscreen with lovely Aloe Vera, all in a light, fresh and sweet smelling lotion that certainly doesn’t feel like yucky sunscreen.

This product comes in very handy over the summer months, where I  find my skin is constantly in a light-pink state. When I need to soothe my skin with Aloe Vera AND protect it from UV rays at the same time, this product is heaven sent. Normal Aloe Vera cream does not contain SPF protection, so is useless to wear in the sun, and most sunscreens don’t contain Aloe Vera to soothe existing burns.

Aloe Fresh does it all!

Aloe Fresh with SPF 15 is a must-have for any beach holiday, but is also a nice addition to my daily beauty routine, as it’s a lovely moisturiser to use even when not in the sun.

Sunscreen that you don’t even realise you’re using… It’s like a burger with hidden vegetables. The best kind!

They’re Baaaacckk…

The eyelash extensions are BACK ON!

Currently batting them around the beaches of Thailand.

Loving my long, luscious, thick, black lashes, that look too good to be true even after a swim in the water, a splash in the spa, or a long, holiday-length shower!

No one would ever guess my mascara hasn’t been touched in days.

Cool? Or just plain weird?

You would think I’d be all over the LIP ART trend,

but I just can’t seem to get my head around it.

While it combines all of my favourite things:

-Crazy makeup fads

-Sparkly things

-ASOS stuff

-Golds & metallics…

I just can’t see myself sporting lipstick made of foil…
And I don’t think I fully understand the concept…
Do you glue the foil onto your lips?
How do you eat? Or talk?
What occasion would warrant such a bold fashion statement? Dinner with the girls? A first date? Work? I don’t think so…
Perhaps a fashion show?
Yes, possibly…
I can never resist a fad!

Silky, soft hair… it’s the Australian dream, right?

Well last year I discovered some beautiful products to help you achieve this dream.

‘NAK Aromas with Argan Oil’ is a line of hair care products designed to help protect and smooth hair, whilst adding brilliant shine!

Get ready for hair that sparkles!

As soon as I used these products, I could see the repairing results instantly. Argon oil (a type of Moroccan Oil) is one of those miracle, hair-loving substances that hairdressers rave on about, so you know it’s good!

The best part about Nak Aromas- they smell soooooo good. People will stop you on the street to smell your hair, I promise.

My favourite products in the Aromas range are the ‘Aroma Oil’ and the ‘Aroma Oil Spray’.

The Aroma Oil is a leave-in treatment in a pump bottle that is applied onto damp hair to condition, protect, and instantly detangle hair. Enjoy stress-free hair taming after your shower, and guilt-free blow drying!

The Aroma Oil Spray does the same thing- but on dry hair! I like to spray it over my mid-lengths and ends before brushing my hair at night. It is amazing at getting rid of knots- big or small! I also spray it on my ends before using a hair straightener. Nak Aromas protects the hair from heat damage, whilst repairing each strand and making hair soft and smooth!

I always spritz my hair with the Aroma Oil Spray before I leave the house, as it adds amazing shine to my locks and makes my hair look (and smell) fabulous!

A bottle will set you back $20-$30, but will last 6-12 months. Available from hair supply stores (like Hairhouse Warehouse) or online sellers like

Want fabulous nails without a trip to the salon?

Then use a TOP COAT, dummy.

We all know life can get stressful sometimes and our at-home mani quickly turns into a slap of colour before a night out.

But seriously, Top Coat and Base Coat can change your life. They were invented for a reason, and I think we forget this sometimes.

Do you want strong, glossy nails that last all week? Of course you do. Then pull out that Top Coat from the bottom of the nail polish box and start using it!
